Porcelain set "Japon" in Creil & Montereau earthenware, also called "Monet" because the famous impressionist painter choose it for his home at Giverny. Made circa 1880.

This set has a slight blue background with a Japanese-style decoration in darker blue made of naturalistics and exotic patterns, on the middle part and the lip such as : cherry blossoms, reeds, flare patterns and various flowers.  

Each piece is marked on the back with the name of the manufactory and the name of the set.

Creil & Montereau was created in 1840 with the fusion of two rival firms: Creil (created in 1774) and Montereau (created in 1745). This earthenware (and porcelain) manufactory was famous for its technique of engraved image decal and for having produced the famous "Rousseau" Service, after Felix Bracquemond engravings.
