This platter with its animal and plant motifs is representative of the Jugendstil, an international movement of German origin that flourished from 1896 onwards, contemporary with Art Nouveau. The models produced in the Kayserzinn edition of the J. P. Kayser & Sohn company were made of a lead-free pewter alloy, which gives them a beautiful shine.
Several pieces designed by Hugo Leven and from the Kayserzinn edition are today in museums such as the Musée d'Orsay in Paris or the V&A in London.
